Samsung Galaxy S III gets a Flipboard update

Galaxy S III Flipboard update

Galaxy S III owners starting up Flipboard this morning will notice a new update coming their way, bringing the social magazine app up to version 1.8.4 beta 1 -- the same beta version that started rolling out to testers a couple of days ago. According to the official list of changes, there isn't much new stuff in this initial update, just a couple of bug fixes. Crashes while editing the table of contents or changing the content cache settings should now be remedied, so that's good news if either of those glitches were giving you trouble.

To grab the latest update, which weighs just 2.5MB, simply fire up Flipboard and it should be pushed out automatically.

Update Samsung Galaxy S With Stable ICS 4.0.4 Firmware [How To]

Now all those people who have been using Samsung Galaxy S GT I9100 can now roll their sleeves up as their devices can now be updated with the newly released IMM761 based Stable ICS 4.0.4 firmware and now they can easily apply this update using the detailed guide we would be sharing.

Be aware that this isn’t an official release by Samsung Electronics and we do not have any information on when there would be an official update. But we should be thankful to the developers who created this firmware.

Note: Before you are going to apply these steps, ensure that you are on the rooted XXJVU Firmware.

Important: We and even the developer won’t be responsible for any damage that takes place to your device while following these steps.

The ROM we would see today is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy S GT I9100. So, make sure you try this ROM only on this device, not any other device by any company. You must take back-up of all the internal data present in your phone like Logs, Contacts, messages, etc. with the help of backup applications.Battery should be charged enough in order to apply this update. 60% minimum is recommended from our side otherwise your phone may get switched off while the update process.Disable all antivirus suites in your computer as well as mobile so that update process may not get interrupted.Make sure USB debugging is enabled in your mobile. If not, you can do it by following the path – “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” and after that USB debugging would be enabled in your phone. Now just make sure you follow the corresponding instructions properly.Download IMM76I based ICS 4.0.4 custom ROM firmware &Google Apps  directly to your Computer.Transfer the files you downloaded to your phone by connecting your phone to computer using USB cable.Disconnect the phone from the computer. Now we will have to enter the device into recovery mode and to do the same, turn off your phone and then Volume down + Home key (Middle button) + Power button. In recovery mode, select ‘Install ZIP from SD card’ and on the next screen, select ‘Choose ZIP from SD card’ and then choose the Stable ICS 4.0.4 ROM file and also select the Google Apps ZIP package as you transferred the file earlier and the installation process would start and finish in 5-8 minutes. As it’s done, the device would reboot automatically and if not, then just land back to the main recovery screen and then select, ‘+++Go back+++’ and then ‘reboot System now’ and the device would restart into normal mode.

Now when your Samsung Galaxy S Android Phone boots up, you would be running Stable ICS 4.0.4 Firmware.

T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4G ICS update rolling out today, Amaze update coming May 21

Android Central

Good news this morning for anyone rocking T-Mobile's HTC Sensation 4G -- as we reported a couple of days ago, the Sensation's update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich begins rolling out today. So head to Settings > About phone > Software updates to see if your update is ready yet.

In addition, T-Mobile has today revealed that its HTC Amaze 4G will be joining the Sensation on ICS from next Monday, May 21. Just like the Sensation's ICS upgrade, the Amaze OTA will bring it up to Android 4.0.3 and HTC Sense 3.6. That's the same intermediary version of Sense that we've seen on other updated phones, adding many of the features we've seen on newer Sense 4.0 phones, but sticks with the visual style of the older Sense 3.x.

If you're updating your Sensation to ICS today, be sure to drop by the comments and let us know how it went!

[Update: Now With ICS Source] Gold For Android Developers: Add AOSP Source Code To Eclipse With The "Android Sources" Plugin

As an Android developer, the first thing I do when I set up Eclipse with ADT on a new machine is hunt down the Android source for the API level I'm working on.

Earlier this month, I added a request for Android 4.0 source to be added to the plugin, and I'm pleased to report that the plugin maintainer just added it to the latest version.

Honeycomb sources are being worked on.

Note: If you already have the plugin installed, you'll need to re-install for this addition to show up.

Developers should understand what I'm talking about, but for the rest of you - this priceless little addition to our development process means whenever we want to see just what exactly Android is doing at a certain point in our programs, we can actually take a peek.

In fact, I oftentimes gain more insight into how the code works (or why mine doesn't work) from looking at the source than from reading documentation. Go try that with iOS...

In other words, if I'm looking at Activity.class, which is part of Android, instead of looking at what you see on the left, I would much rather be looking at what you see on the right:

image image

Left: without source code | Right: with source code

Until I found the plugin I'm about to show you, the process of downloading and packaging the source code for consumption in Eclipse had always been quite painful.

Yes - Android is open, but in order to grab the right source from its repositories, one needs to spend a considerable amount of time first figuring out where all the parts are and then downloading them one by one, praying that they're using the right branch. It's a mess, really - a mess Google shouldn't have left for developers to sort out.

Enter the Android Sources Eclipse plugin. No more downloading random zips, searching for the right sources, and figuring out what to package where - just install the plugin, restart Eclipse, and all available API levels (currently 3-10, considering Honeycomb isn't open sourced and ICS source hasn't come out yet) are automagically available. 170MB of open goodness.

Here's how to get it up and running in a few clicks:

Start Eclipse, go to Help -> Install New Software.Click Add...Enter http://adt-addons.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/source/com.android.ide.eclipse.source.update/ into the Location field and whatever you want into the Name field. Press OK.Now Select the newly added repository from the dropdown in the Work with prompt. You should see Android Sources as the only available plugin:
imagePress Next, then Finish, wait, and restart Eclipse at the prompt.Voila - you're done. You should now be able to step into any Android class (this excludes native functions, however) and examine the source code. Do it during debugging or regular development and stop staring at boring class definitions.Code our next favorite app.???Profit.

[Updated: Mexico/Brazil Added] Acer Clarifies A100 And A500 ICS Update Date - Starting April 27 In The US

You're probably getting used to OEMs being conveniently vague about dates of Ice Cream Sandwich rollouts. Well, Acer has seen fit to set the record straight and clue everyone into the update schedule for the Iconia Tab A100 and A500 Android tablets. Both devices will begin getting the update on April 27, which is a mere 10 days from now. The A200 got its update way back in February.

Update: Mexico and Brazil updates clarified:

The aforementioned April date is only for the US variant of the devices, though. Latin America is actually getting its updates under way a few days earlier, but sadly, Iconia A100 owners in Canada will have to wait until May 3. Mexico and Brazil will be left hanging until some nebulous "mid-April" date that might be Acer's way of saying "eventually."

The Android 4.0 update (early versions of which leaked in February) will bring a faster interface, Acer's Ring feature for quick access to apps and settings, and better image capture. You can start mashing the update button very soon, but until then - patience.
