Updated: Experiencing Issues After Updating Your Sprint LG Optimus S To Gingerbread? Here Are Some Potential Workarounds

On September 14, Sprint revealed that an update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) was rolling out for the LG Optimus S. Seems like a good thing, right? Not so fast, actually - it turns out there are some fairly substantial bugs that weren't worked out before rolling out the update. Sprint is aware of the keyboard issue but has yet to acknowledge the other problems users seem to be experiencing, such as issues charging and using USB storage.

Update: Sprint pulled the Gingerbread update for the time being.

We've already had over 150 comments relating to the update, issues, and potential fixes, so I thought it would be a good idea to compile some of the suggestions into a post.

Keyboard issues (no predictive text): This isn't a "fix" per se, but it seems the best route is to use an alternative keyboard. Swype is pre-installed on the phone, so you can switch to that without installing anything new. Alternatively, you can try other players such as SwiftKey, A.I.type, and TouchPal. Otherwise, LG is aware of the issue and working on a fix.Phone won't charge The potential fix is to enable USB Debugging. To do so, head to Settings -> Applications -> Development -> make sure USB Debugging is checked.Alternatively, if it won't charge normally (while powered on), it should charge while powered off. Your best bet is probably to power it off and let it charge while you sleep. For some people, it seems that the phone actually is charging, it just doesn't show it.Can't use USB storage

Unfortunately, there are no perfect fixes for any of the issues listed above. Other users are reporting a smattering of smaller (and substantially less frequent) issues, but hopefully the above can help some people with the most significant issues.

Feel free to sound off with your own issues (or fixes) in the comments below. I'll keep an eye on the comments and add anything major to the post.

[Updated: v2] Redditor Creates Mock-Up Of Facebook For ICS, We Can Only Drool

Facebook’s current Android app has become the subject of much hatred from the Android community – for one thing, it rarely works properly (if at all); for another, its looks have become quite stale. Sadly, we still haven’t seen any plans for future improvements, so Redditor monkfishbandana took it upon himself to come up with a mock-up of how he believes Facebook for Android should look, especially with a beautiful OS like Ice Cream Sandwich.

Update: The mocks were updated to v2 - you can view them here (via Reddit). The original mocks are preserved below.

Facebook developers, take note:

FB mock-up 1 FB mock-up 2 FB mock-up 3

FB mock-up 4 FB mock-up 5 FB mock-up 6

FB mock-up 7 FB mock-up 8 FB mock-up 9

Though there are countless improvements over the real Facebook app, a few key features have been excluded for various reasons:

The ‘Timeline’ lacks location and ‘studying at’ icons‘Request’ notifications have been dropped from the action bar and added to the Friends sectionThe ‘Create Event’ and ‘Create Message’ buttons are missingStill, it’s a pretty impressive first try, especially considering that monkfishbandana claims he’s only spent a few days on it. Enjoy the beauty, because sadly you likely won’t be seeing any of it on your phone any time soon!

[Updated: Mexico/Brazil Added] Acer Clarifies A100 And A500 ICS Update Date - Starting April 27 In The US

You're probably getting used to OEMs being conveniently vague about dates of Ice Cream Sandwich rollouts. Well, Acer has seen fit to set the record straight and clue everyone into the update schedule for the Iconia Tab A100 and A500 Android tablets. Both devices will begin getting the update on April 27, which is a mere 10 days from now. The A200 got its update way back in February.

Update: Mexico and Brazil updates clarified:

The aforementioned April date is only for the US variant of the devices, though. Latin America is actually getting its updates under way a few days earlier, but sadly, Iconia A100 owners in Canada will have to wait until May 3. Mexico and Brazil will be left hanging until some nebulous "mid-April" date that might be Acer's way of saying "eventually."

The Android 4.0 update (early versions of which leaked in February) will bring a faster interface, Acer's Ring feature for quick access to apps and settings, and better image capture. You can start mashing the update button very soon, but until then - patience.
